About this event

Overview

October is Science Policy month at the Office of Career and Professional Development, when we look at careers at the interface between scientists and policymakers.

According to the NIH, science policy "sets the rules of the road for conducting research, helping ensure that scientific investigations are carried out safely, securely, adhering to the highest standards of research integrity, and in a way that addresses evolving ethical concerns. Science policy also acts as an enabler of science...to remove obstacles delaying research advancement or build new collaborative pathways. Finally, science policy can help steer science, cultivating burgeoning areas of research, posing societal challenges to be addressed by research, or synthesizing the data needed to help set research priorities."

We'll learn about these careers and more as talk with UCSF alumni about their own career stories and how their values have driven their choices to get them where they are today.

About This Series

Alumni Career Paths is a collaboration with Black Excellence in STEM (BE-STEM) and the Office of Alumni Relations. We aim to highlight and amplify the voices, identities, and experiences of Black scientists and other scientists from communities historically excluded from STEM. The program is career-neutral, exemplifying all of the careers students and postdoctoral scholars can pursue with their degrees.

This program is part of the Every Month Series.
